How do I join an ensemble?
 American Recorder Society: Redding Chapter

Performance at Shasta College--Huck Finn Day, May 2006.
Betty, Lila, Kay, Barbara C., Barbara W., Maureen, and Jan

Novice Ensemble: The "Castle Musicians"

The original Castle Musicians (above) started as part of a Shasta College class. We continued to meet as an ensemble on a regular basis. Members discovered that—

Recorder playing is not only rewarding in itself, but we meet other people with whom we enjoy playing!

As of April 2013, the Castle Musicians is a progressing novice ensemble. The group is a continuation for students from the classes at the Senior Citizens Hall in Redding.

Currently the group is a trio, playing unison and part music, learning alto fingering, and acquiring interpretive skills.

Playing in a Recorder Ensemble

If you play the recorder (a little), but have never played in an ensemble, the Castle Musicians group is for you! Please contact Kay for more information. Contact Kay to join an ensemble.

  Advanced Novice Ensemble: Revelling Recorders
Revelling Recorders currently is on hold in 2013 through lack of players.

Revelling Recorders plays part music and requires sight-reading ability. Current repertoire includes Elizabethan and Jacobean music, as well as French Baroque arrangements.

Intermediate and Advanced-Intermediate Ensemble: Willow Wind Consort

Performing at the Old Shasta Museum, December, 2010: "Old-Time Holiday in the Parks"

Kay and Barbara Condon (left to right).
We performed carols in various arrangements, German Advent songs, as well as English Renaissance music.

Willow Wind Consort is seeking advanced players who have ensemble experience in Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music.

Members of the Intermediate Ensemble play multiple instruments (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass,) read treble and bass clefs, and play standard recorder repertoire.

The ensemble performs German, French, English, Italian, and Irish repertoire--from Medieval through contemporary periods. A dynamic duo! However, we would love to expand to a trio or quartet.

If you are an experienced recorder player, you are welcome to attend a rehearsal.  The group consists of musically and artistically talented people who want to play beautiful music together. Contact Kay to join an ensemble.
