The "Castle Musicians" ...started with a Shasta College class in 2004

In the Fall of 2004, Kay taught two beginning recorder classes through the Community Education Program of Shasta College. Classes were held on the main Shasta College campus.
  The two classes were:
Beginning Recorder (Fundamentals of Music)—for people who did not play an instrument
Beginning Recorderfor people who already played an instrument
Each course was eight weeks in length and was designed to lay a foundation in the following areas:
  recorder technique
  approach to recorder music
  repertoire and historical periods
how to play with CD accompaniment
how to play together in an ensemble
At the end of eight weeks, all of the participants were able to rehearse and play together on their own in an ensemble. Each new recorder player received a Certificate of Achievement.
